Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club

Attendance: 41 members were in attendance.

Apologies: John Dobson, Eric Fulton, Norman Gallagher, Danny Kennedy, Cecil Leitch, Aubrey McElhinney, John McHenry, John McKegney, Des Moore and John Tan. (10)

New Club President Jim Archer welcomed club members to this first meeting of his Presidential year. Jim then introduced our speakers for the morning John and Jill Wilson who gave a fascinating and unusual talk on “The Road to Mandalay”. This was an Endurance Rally negotiated in their Classic 1953 Volvo from the Raffels Hotel in Singapore through Malaysia, Thailand to Mandalay in Burma. Jill also gave an outline of the work carried out in the Phillipines by the childrens’ charity “Helping Hands, Healing Hearts”.

A brief summary of this talk is available in the Speakers Record Book, and here on the club web site, for members' interest. A vote of thanks proposed by Des Johnston was passed on to Denis and Jill by the President. The members showed their appreciation.

Minutes: Because of time constraints it was agreed that the minutes of 19 January 2016 be taken as read. These were then signed by the President. The minutes can be examined here on the Club website.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: None.

Social: Joe Alcorn said that menus will be available on Tue.9th Feb. for the Club Lunch on 23rd February 2016.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten said he was pleased to say there was nothing new to report this week.

Treasurer: Nigel Semple said he was currently collecting members’ subs. which are now due.

A O B:
1. Membership cards for 2016/17 are now available. Thanks go to Jim Hillis for the preparation of the new cards.

2. Members are reminded that a retiring collection will be taken today for the charity “Helping Hands Healing Hearts”, a charity supported by Denis and Jill Wilson.

Next Speakers Meeting: Will be on 9th February, when the guest speaker will be Club Member John McKegney the topic of his talk being “Ireland’s Worst Railway Disaster.”

The President thanked everyone for attending, and hoped to see them at our next meeting.
