Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance: 41 members were in attendance.

Apologies: James Dinsmore, Noel Finlay, Eric Fulton, Norman Gallagher, John Graham, Malcolm Hinds, Ernest Preece, John Tan and Mike Turner. (9)

The President Jim Archer welcomed members and guest Derek Wood to the meeting.

The President then introduced this mornings speaker, club member Ken Parkes, the topic of his presentation being “The Golden Days of Silent Films”

Ken outlined the history of silent films together with the development of cameras and projectors; cinemas with in house musicians and Compton or Wurlitzer organs. He then went on to show a feature film entitled BIG BUSINESS starring Laurel and Hardy was produced in 1929 by Hal Roach.
A question and answer session followed the talk. A brief summary of this talk is available in the speakers’ record book and here on the club website.
A vote of thanks proposed by Jim Hillis was passed to Ken Parkes by the President. Again the members showed their appreciation of Ken.

Weekly Business:
Minutes: The Minutes of 15th November 2016 were read, approved by the members present and signed by the President.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: None.

Social: Joe Alcorn indicated that the Christmas Lunch menus are now available. Menu choices together with names of members and guests must be returned by Tuesday 29th November so that the table layout can be completed.

Welfare: Nothing new to report from Cecil Spotten.

Treasurer: Nothing to report from Nigel Semple.

1: Ken Parkes informed members that the 4 minute “Settle to Carlisle” film clip can now be viewed on the Club website.

2: Graham Kane gave notice that he will formally propose that Derek Wood be admitted to membership of Coleraine Probus Club at the next club meeting.

Next meeting: Will be held on Tuesday 29th November 2016 when Jennifer Cunningham will peak on the subject of “Unfolding Memories ---- Octogenarians.”

The President thanked members for attending and hoped to see everyone at the next Club meeting.
