Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club

Attendance: 40 members were in attendance.

Apologies: Jim Foote, Eric Fulton, Brian Green, Des Johnston, Aubrey McElhinney, Ian Murray, James Nesbitt, Ernest Preece, Mike Turner and Gordon Ward. (10)

Club President Jim Archer informed members of the death of Ernest Preece’s wife Iona on 9th September. A Service of Thanksgiving will be held on Wed 14th September in Groomsport Parish Church at 2:30pm.

The President then welcomed members to the meeting. This morning’s speaker, Elaine Way, was introduced, the topic of her talk being “The New Radiotherapy Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital”.

A vote of thanks proposed by Reggie Patterson was passed to Elaine by the President. The members showed their appreciation.

Weekly Business:
Minutes: The minutes of 6th Sept. 2016 were read, approved by the members present and signed by the President.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: Cancer Research UK invite Probus members to a talk on Cancer Research to be held at Flowerfield Arts Centre on Wed. 26 Oct. 2016 1:30pm. - 4:00pm. RSVP to Kevin.harper@cancer.org uk (Info. sheet at the signing in table)

Social: Joe Alcorn said that the completed menus for the Club Lunch on Tue.27 Sept. should be returned to the Secretary or Eric Fulton on Tue. 20 Sept. 2016.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten said he had nothing new to report.
Treasurer: Nothing to report.

AOB : 1. Coleraine Hospice Group invites members to attend a charity breakfast in Portstewart Golf Club on Fri 23 September between 8.00am and 10.30am. Cost £10:00 per person. (Info. sheet at the signing in table.)

2. Probus Committee Meeting – Tuesday 20 Sept. 2016 at 9:30am in the Dalzell Room at Portstewart Golf Club.
The Next Meeting: Will be on Tue.20th September 2016 when the speaker will be Rory McNeary on the subject of “ Marine Archaeology”. .

The President, finishing with an amusing tale, thanked members for attending and hoped to see everyone at the next meeting.
