Minutes for 12th January 2016

Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club

Attendance: 41 members.

The Club President, John Graham, welcomed members to the meeting . He then introduced our speaker for the morning, John Campbell, the topic of his talk being “WALK ACROSS ENGLAND”.

John Campbell, as a Probus Member himself brought greetings from Riada Probus Club. After retirement, having spent 40 years with the Dept. of Agriculture, John was persuaded to take up long distance hill walking.

John’s Wainwrights coast to coast walk was undertaken in support of the “Smiles Foundation”. The route from St. Bees Head on the Irish Sea coast of Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay on the English North Sea coast has been traditionally stated as 192 miles. John’s journey, illustrated with numerous photographs, took us from St. Bees through the magnificent scenery of the Lake District, the Pennines, the North York Dales, The Vale of Mobray the Cleveland Hills and the North York Moors, completing the enthralling journey at Robin Hood’s Bay.

A summary of this talk is available in the Speaker’s Record Book and also here on the Club Website.

A vote of thanks proposed by Cecil Leitch was passed to John Campbell by the President. The members showed their appreciation.
