Talk and special slide/video show by Denis and Jill Wilson who were on 'The Road to Mandalay'

Coleraine Probus members were recently taken on a hair-raising road trip of over 5000 miles in a vintage car - well, not actually IN the car; they were guided along the route by Denis and Jill Wilson, who made this hazardous journey last year. Denis and Jill were at the meeting to show photos, videos and give a first hand account of the Endurance Rally Associations' attempt to cross Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Burma, as they travelled "The Road to Mandalay".

The rally attracted some 70 vintage cars (55 finished) which ranged from an unbelievable 1907 Italia 40, to some 'modern' 1970s American jobs. Denis and Jill were in a 1957 Volvo (which they obtained from a museum in Sweden), and seemed to have a relatively smooth trip (compared to some drivers and their horrendous accidents) over one of the world's most dangerous roads.

One of the reasons the Wilsons were making this trip (and risking their lives, from what the club members could see!) was their passion for raising some money in aid of a charity for children's recovery unit in the Philippines called Helping Hands, Healing Hearts. Club members were so impressed by both rally feats of driving endurance AND the work of the charity, they raised almost £250 at the close of the talk.
