Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance: 40 members were in attendance.

Apologies: Joe Alcorn, James Dinsmore, John Dobson, Eric Fulton, John Graham, John Ludlow, Ian Murray, Billy Platt, Ernest Preece, Tony Smith and Gordon Ward. (11)

The President Jim Archer welcomed members and guest Pat Donnelly to the meeting.

He then introduced this morning’s speaker, Jennifer Cunningham, the topic of her talk being “Unfolding Stories; Octogenarians”

Jennifer is a member of Coleraine Historical Society and editor of the society’s journal The Bann Disc which has been published annually since 1994. Jennifer’s presentation was both informative and amusing and her photographic display prompted many memories.

A question and answer session followed the talk. A brief summary of this talk is available in the speakers’ record book and here on the club website.

A vote of thanks proposed by John McKegney was passed to Jennifer by the President. The members showed their appreciation.

Weekly Business:
Minutes: The Minutes of 22nd November 2016 were taken as read, with the approval of the members present, and signed by the President.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: None.

Social: Des Johnston reported that 53 members and guests have signed up for the Christmas lunch on Tue. 13th Dec. Outstanding returns must be made by the
end of this week (2nd December) to Joe Alcorn.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten said that Ernest Preece was still having problems with leg ulcers.

Treasurer: Nothing to report from Nigel Semple.

A.O.B. 1: Graham Kane formally proposed that Derick Woods be accepted for membership of Coleraine Probus Club. This proposal was seconded by Des Moore and unanimously approved by the members present.

2: Counterpoint Christmas Concert in St Patrick’s Church on Fri. 2nd.Dec. at 7:30 pm.

3: Bridge Builders Carols and Readings for Advent in Coleraine Methodist Church on Tue. 29th Nov. at 7:30pm.

4: “Through the Lens Killowen” in the Museum at Coleraine Town Hall, 10th. November to 23rd. December, Tuesday to Saturday 11:00am to 4:00pm.

Next meeting: Will be held on Tuesday 6th December 2016 when Dr. Ron Elsdon will speak on the subject of “In the Beginning.”

The President thanked members for attending and hoped to see everyone at the next Club meeting.
