Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club

Attendance: 34 members were in attendance.

Apologies: Jim Archer, Sam Boyd, Leo Dolan, Jim Donaghy, Norman Gallagher, John Graham, Jack Henderson, Norman Maxwell, John McHenry, Des Moore, Reggie Patterson, Nigel Semple, Cecil Spotten and Gordon Ward. (14)

The Vice President Mike Turner welcomed members and guests Miriam Murray and Sharyn Griffith to the meeting. This morning’s speaker, Mr Jaweed Wali was introduced, the topic of his talk being “Introducing Islam”.

Mr. Wali has loyally served this community as a Consultant in the Causeway Hospital. His talk gave an informative insight into Islam which he described as a complete way of life which instils the values of Islam into daily life. A searching question and answer session followed the talk.

A vote of thanks proposed by Ian Scott was passed to Dr Wali by the Vice President. The members showed their appreciation.

Weekly Business:
Minutes: Because of time limitations and with the approval of the members the minutes of 4th October 2016 were taken as read, These minutes can be viewed on the Club Website.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: None.

Reports:
Social: Joe Alcorn advised members that menus for the club lunch on Tuesday 25th October now available. This is the last lunch before the Christmas lunch. Completed menu choices should be returned to Joe or Eric at the next meeting.

Welfare: Nothing to report. An apology was received from Cecil Spotten.
Treasurer: Nothing to report. An apology was received from Nigel Semple.

AOB : 1. Ken Parkes said that he has received an invitation to visit the Limavady Probus Club and with the Members permission he will pass on greetings from the Coleraine Club. Permission was granted.

2. New publication “The Town Book of Coleraine” by Andrew Kane Launch event 2nd. November 2016 in the Town Hall
The Next Meeting: Will be on Tue.18th October 2016 when the speaker will be Bobby Clark onthe subject of “The Clark Family.”

The Vice President thanked members for attending and hoped to see everyone at the next meeting.
