Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club

Attendance: 41 members were in attendance.

Apologies: Jim Archer, Leo Dolan, Malcolm Hinds, Cecil Leitch, John McKegney and BillyPlatt. (6)

The Vice President Mike Turner welcomed members to the meeting. This morning’s speaker, Bobby Clark was introduced, the topic of his talk being “Back to the Future: the Linen Industry in Upperlands ”.

Bobby opened his talk with a short DVD which outlined the production of linen at Upperlands, and was followed by giving a very interesting history of the Clark family and the business that carries their name.

A question and answer session followed the talk. A brief summary of this talk is available in the speakers’ record book and here on the club website.

A vote of thanks proposed by John Tan was passed to Bobby Clark by the Vice President. The members showed their appreciation.

Weekly Business:
Minutes: The Minutes of 11th October 2016 were read, approved by the members present and signed by the Vice President.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: None.

Social: Joe Alcorn reminded members that their menu choices for the club lunch on Tue. 25th October should be passed to Eric Fulton as soon as possible.

Welfare: Nothing to report from Cecil Spotten.

Treasurer: Nothing to report from Nigel Semple.

AOB : 1. Ross Torrens informed members of a Concert commemorating the Battle of the Somme, to be held in Portrush Town Hall on Fri. and Sat. the 4th. and 5th.Nov. Tickets at £10:00. Those wishing to purchase tickets should give their names to Ross after the meeting. The Ballywillan Band will feature in the concert.

2. Members were reminded of the new publication “The Town Book of Coleraine” by Andrew Kane (son of Graham Kane) Launch event 2nd. November 2016 in the Town Hall.
The Next Meeting: Will be on Tue.1st November 2016 when the speaker will be Dr Johnston McMaster on the subject of “The 1916 Rising”

The Vice President thanked members for attending and hoped to see everyone at the Club Lunch on Tue. 25th Oct. and the next meeting on Tue. 1st November 2016.
