Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club

Attendance: 34 members were in attendance.

Apologies: Jim Archer, James Dinsmore, Eric Fulton, John Graham, Jim Hillis, Malcolm Hinds, John McHenry, Ian Murray, James Nesbitt, Ernest Preece, Nigel Semple, Cecil Spotten and John Tan. (13)

Club Vice President Mike Turner welcomed members to the meeting. John McKegney then informed members that this mornings speaker, Maria McGilly, is unfortunately incapacitated and therefore unable to attend. It is hoped that she will be able to come in the Autumn.

At very short notice, Ken Parkes has arranged to show a short Charlie Chaplin silent film entitled “Easy Street.” This will be screened after the Weekly Business.

The minutes of 19th April 2016 were read, approved by the members and signed by the Vice President.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: None.

Reports:
Social: Joe Alcorn said that the Menus for the Club Lunch on Tue. 10th May 2016 are now available. The lunch cost of £12:00 includes tea or coffee and biscuits before the Probus Club Quiz. Completed menu choices should be returned as soon as possible.

Welfare: Mike Turner reported that James Nesbitt is now home from hospital.

Treasurer: Nothing to report.

A O B: No other business.

“EASY STREET” is a 1917 short action comedy film by Charlie Chaplin which features a little tramp’s encounters in a slum area where the police are failing to maintain law and order. After his religious awakening in a local mission hall and inspired by an attractive young woman, he joins the police force and in a series of escapades he defeats the local bully, the violent mob and the abusive drug addict, eventually restoring peace and harmony to Easy Street and in the process capturing the heart of the attractive young woman.

Next Speakers Meeting: Will be on Tue.3rd May 2016 when the guest speaker will be Cathy Rowe who has nursed in St. Helena.

The Vice President said that once again Ken Parkes has, at unbelievably short notice, stepped into the breach and produced a very amusing and acceptable production. Well done Ken. This sentiment was endorsed by the members.

The Vice President thanked members for attending and hoped all would be able to attend at the next meeting on Tues 3 May 2016.
