Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance: 39 members were in attendance.

Apologies: John Graham, Des Johnston and James Nesbitt. (3)

The President, Des Moore, welcomed members to the meeting. A special welcome was given to Rotarian Wesley Armstrong. He then introduced this morning’s speaker Howard Caskie the topic of his talk being “Route 66.”

An expanded summary of the talk is available in the speaker’s record book and here on the club website.

A question and answer session followed. A vote of thanks, proposed by Eric Fulton, was passed to Howard by the President. The members showed their appreciation of an interesting and informative talk.

Weekly Business:
Minutes: The minutes of the 17th April 2018 were, with the approval of the members, taken as read and signed by the President.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: None

Reports:
Social: Joe Alcorn reported that the Club Lunch and Quiz will be held at The Lodge Hotel on Tuesday 8th May. The 2 course buffet lunch with tea or coffee will cost £12:50. (For info: 28 members and guests were at the Quiz with 35 for the Lunch).

Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Des Johnston suffered a heart attack on Monday 30th April and is now in coronary care at The Causeway Hospital. Our thoughts and prayers are with Des and Irene at this time. There is no change in Leslie Brennan’s condition.

Treasurer: Nigel Semple had nothing new to report about the finances.

1. Ulster Gliding Club 25 members showed an interest in the invitation to visit The Gliding Club on Tue. 19th June. Wives are included in the invitation. Coffee/tea and a BBQ form part of the visit. On 19th June meet in B&Q car park at 9:45am. for departure at 10:00am. sharp.

2. Anniversary Lunch. The 30th. Anniversary Lunch, to include wives and invited guests, will take place at the end of October 2018. A sub-committee will meet to fine tune the arrangements for the lunch and entertainment.

Next Meeting: The next speakers meeting will be held after the summer break on Tuesday 4th September 2018 in The Portstewart Golf Club.

Closing Remarks: The President thanked members for attending and looked forward to seeing them at the next meeting. He would
also encourage members to sign up for the Club Quiz and Lunch on Tue. 8th. May as reported by Joe Alcorn
