DRAFT Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club The members met at 10:30 to celebrate a very special occasion, the 100th birthday of club member, Norman Irwin. Tea or coffee supplemented with birthday cake (supplied by our President and his wife) which was enjoyed by all. This was followed by an enthusiastic rendition of “Happy Birthday" followed by "For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow”.
Attendance: 40 members were in attendance.
Apologies (10) James Dinsmore, Leo Dolan, Eric Fulton, Jack Henderson, Danny Kennedy, John McKegney, James Nesbitt, John O’Neill John Tan and Gordon Ward.
The President then gave a warm welcome to members and to our guest Colum McCluskey.
This morning’s speaker, Valerie Saunders, was then introduced, the title of her talk being “The N.I. Chest, Heart and Stroke Group”

and here on the club website.A question and answer session followed the talk. A vote of thanks, proposed by Des Johnston, was passed to Valerie by the President. The members showed their appreciation of an interesting and sobering talk.

Minutes: The minutes of the 13th November 2018 were, with the approval of the members, taken as read and signed by the President.

Reports
Social: Joe Alcorn reminded members that the next lunch will be the 30th Anniversary Celebratory Lunch and Entertainment on Tuesday 11th December in The Lodge Hotel. Invitation cards will be given to members after the meeting. Please put this date in your diary. See also the special anniversary lunch attendance sheet at the signing in table.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten gave an update on the welfare of members. Jim Gordon is now in. The Cottage Nursing Home and Jack Henderson is recovering at home from a post operative infection. .
Treasurer: Nigel Semple confirmed that he has nothing further to report.

1. The President’s Charity. There will be a retiring collection today for the N. I. Chest, Heart and Stroke Association. This Charity is very important to the President and indeed to other members of the club. The appeal will remain open until the next meeting on Tue. 27th.November.
2. The Probus Magazine. Ken Parkes said that the Winter Edition is now available. There are two pages of reports from N. I. clubs including, thanks to . Mike Turner, one from our own club. .
3. Local Events. (i) A presentation by The Causeway Yarn Spinners ;”Through the Eyes of Sam Henry”: Kilrea Town Hall, Thursday 29th November at 7:30pm. (ii) Lecture by Ken McCormac “The Life and Times of the Earl Bishop”; in St. Columb’s Cathedral, Londonderry on Thursday 29th November at 8:00 pm.
Next Meeting: The next speakers meeting will be held on Tuesday 27th November 2018 in . Portstewart Golf Club when Alison McCaughan will speak on the . “The 1718 Bann Valley Migration.” .
Closing Remarks. The President thanked members for attending. He also paid a special tribute to Mike Turner for the good work he did in producing the Anniversary invitations and also as web master for maintaining the club website. He encouraged members to visit the website which is always a worthwhile experience. .
