Minutes for 18th September

Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance:
33 members were in attendance.

Apologies (14) Jim Archer, Robin Blackford, Leo Dolan, Norman Gallagher, John Graham, Norman Irwin, Danny Kennedy, Cecil Leitch, Norman Maxwell, John McKegney, Ian Murray, James Nesbitt, Jerry Sayers, John Tan, Mike Turner and Gordon Ward.

The President Des Moore welcomed members to the meeting. He then introduced this morning’s speaker Eric Lake whose subject is “Reminiscence of an Ancient Mariner”.

A vote of thanks, proposed by Joe Alcorn, was passed to Eric by the President. The members showed their appreciation of an interesting and informative talk. A question and answer session followed after the meeting closed.

Minutes
: The minutes of the 11th September 2018 were, with the approval of the members, taken as read and signed by the President.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Joe Alcorn referred the President to item one of “Any Other Business”.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported on former members who can no longer attend meetings. Leslie Brennan; In Ratheane Nursing Home but confined to bed. Ernest Preece; In The Bohill Nursing Home but unable to walk. Alex Elliot; Residing at home and in good form but has difficulty in walking. John Buick and his wife both reside at The Bohill Nursing Home. Ivan Gough; Resides at home with his wife Beryl and is in good form. Jim Gordon; Jim has made a remarkable recovery. He has been discharged from Holywell Hospital and is looking for a suitable care home in Coleraine.

Treasurer: Nigel Semple Nothing to report.

1. CLUB AWAY DAY
on 25th September 2018 to Garvagh Museum. Wives and guests may be invited. Tea/coffee and scones at the GADDA Centre. Please complete the separate Garvagh Museum Attendance Sheet. Include wives and guests where appropriate.

2. NEW MEMBER John McHenry formally proposed that John Christy be accepted for membership of Coleraine Probus Club. This proposal was seconded by Graham Kane and approved unanimously by the members.

3. PROBUS MAGAZINE Ken Parkes reminded members that the Autumn 2018 edition is available and our Club is again featured in this edition. A small contribution to cover postage charges would be appreciated. Ken said that he has placed some back copies of the magazine in the local Doctor’s Surgery.

Next Meeting: The next speakers meeting will be held on Tuesday 2nd October 2018 in Portstewart Golf Club when Clare will give a talk on “The Samaritans”.

Closing Remarks: The President thanked members for attending and encouraged all to sign the attendance sheet for the “Away Day to Garvagh Museum”. The Secretary will send an email to members giving details of the travel arrangements. The President looked forward to seeing the members and guests next week at Garvagh.
