Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance:
46 members were in attendance.

The President gave a warm welcome on a wet and windy morning to the members and to our guest Colum McCluskey.

This morning’s speaker, Alison McCaughan, was then introduced, the title of her talk being “The 1718 Bann Valley Migration”

A summary of this talk is available in the speaker’s record book and here on the club website.

A question and answer session followed the talk. A vote of thanks, proposed by Mike Turner, was passed to Alison by the President. The members showed their appreciation of an interesting and enlightening talk.

The minutes of the 20th November 2018 were, with the approval of the members, taken as read and signed by the President.

: Joe Alcorn reminded members that the next lunch will be the 30th Anniversary Celebratory Lunch and Entertainment on Tuesday 11th December in The Lodge Hotel. Invitation cards have been given to members. See also the special anniversary lunch attendance sheet at the signing in table. To date 80 members and guests have signed in for the lunch. An email will be posted by the Secretary to remind members.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten confirmed that he has nothing further to report.

Treasurer: Nigel Semple confirmed that he has nothing further to report.

1. The President’s Charity
. This is the final day for donations to the Chest, Heart and Stroke Group.

2. The Probus Magazine.
Ken Parkes said that the “Four Seasons” of the magazine are now available at the back of the room. He hoped that the Club would continue to support the magazine in the new year.

3. Local Events.
(i) A presentation by The Causeway Yarnspinners ;”Through the Eyes of Sam Henry”: Kilrea Town Hall, Thursday 29th November at 7:30.
(ii) Lecture by Ken McCormac “The Life and Times of the Earl Bishop”; in St. Columb’s Cathedral, Londonderry on Thursday 29th November at 8:00 pm. .
(iii) Counterpoint Christmas Concert in St. Patricks Church on Friday 7th December 2018 at 7:30 pm. Admission £10:00 payable at the door.

4. 30th Anniversary Photograph. Club members are asked to arrive at 10:30am. on Tuesday 4th December for a group photograph. An email will be posted by the Secretary to remind members.

Next Meeting: The next speakers meeting will be held on Tuesday 4th December 2018 in Portstewart Golf Club when club member John McKegney will speak on the “Journey to Mali.”

Closing Remarks: The President thanked members for attending in such good numbers and looked forward to seeing them all at 10:30 am next Tuesday.
