Minutes for 9th April 2019

Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance:
38 members were in attendance.

Apologies (11) Robin Blackford, Jim Foote, Norman Gallagher, John Graham, Hammy Houston, Graham Kane, Danny Kennedy, Reggie Patterson, John Tan, Gordon Ward and Stanley White.

The President, John McGlade, gave a warm welcome to the members He then introduced this mornings speaker, Barry Williamson, the topic of his talk being ”Talking News”.

A question and answer session followed the talk. A vote of thanks proposed by Ian Murray was passed to Barry by the President.

Minutes:
The minutes of the 2nd April 2019 were, with the approval of the members, taken as read and signed by the President. These can be viewed on the Club website.

Matters arising: The President, John McGlade, welcomed new member, George Butler, and presented him with his membership pack.

Correspondence: None.

Reports.
Social.
Joe Alcorn reported that the next Probus Lunch will be held on Tuesday 7th May in The Lodge Hotel and will be preceded by the annual Club Quiz. This will be the last meeting before the Summer break. …..

Welfare. Cecil Spotten confirmed that he has nothing further to report. However if anyone knows of a member who is ill or in a Nursing Home, please pass this information to Cecil.

Treasurer. Nigel Semple has nothing to report.

Any Other Business.
1. CLUB AWAY DAY
. On 30th April we travel to Kilrea to visit David Laughin’s Organic Farm. Members going on this visit will assemble in the B&Q car park at 10:00 am. We have been asked to arrive at the farm at 10:30 am.

2. NW200 Road Race. On 14th May the triangle circuit roads will be closed between 9:15 am. and 3:00 pm. The Probus meeting on that date is now cancelled.

3. EASTER TUESDAY. There will not be a Probus meeting on Tue. 23rd April.
Next Meeting: The next speakers meeting will be held on Tuesday 16th April 2019 in Portstewart Golf Club when Paul Snelling will speak on the subject of “The Zomba Action Group.” A retiring collection for the South Africa Malawi Flooding Emergency will be taken after the meeting.

Closing Remarks. The President, thanked members for attending and looked forward to seeing them at the next speaker’s meeting on the 16th April. This will be the final meeting of the Club this term in the Golf Club. After the Summer break we will resume in The Golf Club on Tuesday 3rd September 2019.
