Minutes for 7th November 2017

Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance:
29 members were in attendance.

Apologies: Jim Archer, Sam Boyd, James Dinsmore, John Dobson, Leo Dolan, Jim Donaghy, Jim Foote, Jack Henderson, Jim Hillis, Norman Maxwell, John McGlade, John McHenry, John McKegney, Ian Murray, Ernest Preece, Nigel Semple and John Tan. (17)

The President, Mike Turner, welcomed members to the meeting. He then introduced this morning’s speakers Jay Nethercot and James Weston the topic of their talk being the “The Ulster Gliding Club”

A question and answer session followed. A summary of the talk (and lots of photos - WebEd) is available in the speaker’s record book and here on the club website.

A vote of thanks, proposed by Des Johnston, was passed to Jay and James by the President. The members showed their appreciation of an excellent presentation.

Minutes:
The minutes of the 24th October 2017 were read, approved by the members and signed by the President.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: None

Reports
Social: Joe Alcorn reported that 22 members and guests attended the club lunch on Tuesday 31st October. The Berry Pavlova received a special mention for its strength and endurance. Menus for the Christmas Lunch on Tue. 12th Dec are now available.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten said that Jim Foote was back in hospital for one day but is now at home. Jim Hillis and John Dobson are both in hospital awaiting test results. James Dinsmore is also in hospital. There is no change to Leslie Brennan who is still in Ratheane Nursing Home. Ernest Preece has restricted mobility and is unable to return to Probus. Our thoughts and prayers go to all these members.

Treasurer: Nothing new to report. An apology was received from Nigel Semple.

Christmas Entertainment:
There will be a change to the format which will include Carols with monologues, stories and yarns performed by some friends of the President, all in celebration of Christmas and the Winter Season.

Raffle: Jay Nethercot gave a raffle ticket to each Probus member, the prize being a free flight in a glider. The winning ticket, drawn by James Weston, was held by senior member Norman Irwin.
Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held on Tue. 7th Nov. 2017 when the speaker will be club member Grahan Kane on the subject of “Driving Alec Guiness”.
Closing Remarks: The President informed members that he will not be at the next three meeting, but he was sure that the Vice President was looking forward to conducting the meetings.

The meeting closed at 12:03 pm.
