Minutes for 17th January 2017

Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance:
39 members were in attendance.

Apologies: John Dobson, Norman Gallagher, Jack Henderson, Des Johnston, John McKegney, Ian Murray, Ernest Preece, Robin Semple, John Tan and John White. (10)

The President, Jim Archer, welcomed members to the meeting. He then introduced this morning’s speaker, Gary Mullan, from the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, the topic of his talk being “Community Planning”

This is a new responsibility of local government which requires councils to initiate, maintain, facilitate and participate in community planning in partnership with 10 elected councillors, statutory agencies and other public groupings. Gary’s talk developed a theme of Health and Social Wellbeing, a Sustainable Environment and a Strong Economy which will be designed to enhance a better outcome for all citizens of the Borough. The Probus members were certainly educated in the Council’s responsibilities associated with this mornings topic. A question and answer session followed the talk.

A brief summary of this talk is available in the speakers’ record book and here on the club website.

A vote of thanks proposed by Malcolm Hinds was passed to Gary Mullan by the President. The members showed their appreciation.
