Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance: 44 members were in attendance.

Apologies: Jim Gordon, James Nesbitt and Ernest Preece. (3)

The President, Mike Turner, welcomed members to the meeting together with guests, Liam Hickey Rotary Liaison Officer, Jim Hunter, Anne Semple, Christine Turner and Irene Johnston. He then introduced this morning’s speaker, Dr. Chris Hewer, the topic of his talk being “The Life and Career of a Christian Student of Islam.”
Dr. Hewer related how, for 30 years, he had been involved with other scholars in the study and development of positive Christian / Muslim relations in an effort to build a society fit for people to live in side by side.

A question and answer session followed the presentation. A summary of this talk is available in the speaker’s record book and here on the club website.

A vote of thanks proposed by Ahmed Sharieff was passed to Dr. Hewer by the President. The members showed their appreciation of a most informative talk.

Reports:
Social: Joe Alcorn said that 23 members attended the Probus Club lunch on Tuesday 28th March 2017. The next lunch will be held on Tuesday 9th May and this will be preceded by the Club Quiz.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Leslie Brennan is now in Dalriada Hospital. Jim Nesbit is at home and was able to attend a football semi-final recently In Ballymena.

Treasurer: Nothing to report.

A.O.B. Members were reminded that the Probus all Ireland Rally will be held in Omagh on Wed. and Thurs. the 17th and 18th May 2017. Members intending to go to the Rally should contact the Secretary immediately so that registration forms can be completed and sent to the Omagh Probus Club together with the total registration fee.

Next meeting: Will be held on Tuesday 11th April 2017 when the speaker will be Susan Lyons on the subject of “The Oasis Trust”.

The President thanked members for attending and looked forward to seeing them at the next meeting.
