Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 4th November 2014
Attendance: 48 members and guests were present
Apologies: Norman Gallagher, Aubrey McElhinney, James Nesbitt, Reggie Patterson and Tony Smyth (5)
Club President Gordon Ward welcomed members and guests to the meeting and then introduced our speaker for the morning Dr. Richard Burns. Richard began his talk on 'Good Practice' by saying he would be mainly speaking about his memories of his father and situations with various patients over the years. He likened the talk to a W. F. Marshall poem, "Me an Me Da'", and then gave a short reading of his version of the poem, much to everyone's enjoyment. What followed was then another 40 minutes of highly entertaining anecdotes from TWO lifetimes of GP practice. A brief summary of this talk is available in the Speakers Record Book, and also on the club web site. A vote of thanks was proposed by Ross Torrens and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.
Minutes: The minutes of the 21st October 2014 were read, agreed and signed.
Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.
Correspondence: Last weeks' speaker had sent a 'thank you' note to the club and also enclosed some more 'CPR wallet cards' for members.
Social: The President reported that the Club Lunch on 28th October had been attended by 24 members and guests, and was again of a good quality. The President then reminded members about the Club outing to Bushmills Distillery. A booking form and timetable was available, and members wishing to take part on the trip were asked to return the form and cost (£8.50) as soon as possible. Members who may have mobility concerns were reminded that the Tour of the Distillery would involve climbing a few steps.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported with some good news, some neutral and some not so good at all. First it was good to see Jack Henderson back at the Club after his nasty fall and broken ribs. Arnold Carson is looking to a move to a nursing home. Finally, Jim Foote is still in the Causeway and only making a slow improvement, but at least it is an improvement!
A O B: 1. None (another 'unique' event!!!)
Next Meeting: Would be on 11th November when the speaker would be Mr. Andrew Baird, who would be saying 'Power to the People'!
The President thanked all the members and guests for attending and hoped that everyone would also be along next week.
Meeting closed at 11.55 am
