Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 11th February 2014

Attendance: 39 members were present

Apologies: Don Bell, Arnold Carson, Noel Finlay, Ronnie Gray, Norman Maxwell, John McGlade, Aubrey McElhinney and Tony Smyth (8)

Club President Gordon Ward welcomed members to the meeting and then introduced our speaker for the morning Club Member Ian Murray. Ian's talk was about taking part in 'The Walk of 1000 Men', which took place in Cornwall last summer. A brief summary of this talk is available in the Speakers Record Book, and also on the club web site, together with a slide show of the walk. A vote of thanks was proposed by Robin Semple and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.

Minutes: The minutes of the 4th February 2014 read, agreed and signed.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: None.

Social: Jim Gordon reminded members that the Club lunch on February 25th was only two weeks away and asked for meal choices to be returned next week. Jim said he was sure that the quality of the meal would be improved from the last couple of lunches.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten said he had just heard that Sam Barr was in hospital following a heart attack.

Treasurer: Nigel Semple said he was still collecting members subs, should any member who hasn't already paid wish to do so after the meeting.

A O B: Club Cards: The President reminded members that the new 2014/15 cards were available on the 'signing in' table. The President thought that the cards were an invaluable help for all members, and an easy way to keep friends phone numbers handy. The President wanted to thank Jim Hillis for all the effort and time he put into producing these cards. He also wanted to mention that Jim, after producing these for the last 19 years, was thinking about retiring from this annual job, and wanted to train a member who could take over the job in coming years. Please see Jim Hillis or the President if you would like to volunteer.

Next Speakers Meeting: Would be on 18th February, where the guest speaker would be Barry Torrens on 'Climbing Mount Blanc'. There will be a 'retiring Collection' in aid of Cancer Research.

The President thanked everyone for attending, and hoped to see all the members at our next meeting.
