Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 16th September 2014
Attendance: 36 members were present
Apologies: Gordon Ward, Jim Archer, Jim Foote, Cecil Leitch, Norman Maxwell, John McHenry, Mervyn Patterson, Nigel Semple, Tony Smyth & Joe Wishart (10)
Club Vice President John Graham, welcomed members to the meeting on a fine ploughing day for farmers. The Vice President then went on to introduce our speaker for the morning Ms. Rachel Bain, who is the Biodiversity Officer for Ballymoney, Coleraine & Moyle Councils. Rachel explained that her job as split over the four existing councils, thus covering a wide area, but at this meeting, she would be talking about Coleraine in particular. She then went on to describe her job and showed some fine photos in her PowerPoint presentation. A brief summary of this talk is available in the Speakers Record Book, and also on the club web site. A vote of thanks was proposed by Dermot Jennings and was passed on by the Vice President. The members showed their appreciation.
Minutes: The minutes of the 9th September 2014 were read, agreed and signed.
Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.
Correspondence: An invite from the BBC - see AOB item 1.
Social: The Secretary reminded members about the Club Lunch on 30th September, and asked that the menu choices forms were returned to him at the meeting on 23rd.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that worryingly, Jim Foote who had been looking forward to returning home last week, had taken a sudden turn for the worse and was currently in intensive care.
Treasurer: Nigel Semple being absent, there was nothing to report.
A O B: 1. The Gaitherin, The Secretary said that he had received a phone call on 15th from the people filming the current BBC programme on the history, music, dance, song and stories of the Ulster Scots. Club members were invited to a special edition of the programme being filmed in Coleraine Town Hall on Monday 29th Sept. Any member wishing to attend should give their name to the Secretary by 23rd September, as admission was strictly by invitation only.
Next Speakers Meeting: Would be on 23rd September, where the guest speaker would be Mr. James McDowell, who would be talking about 'The Birds of the Czech Republic'
The Vice President thanked members for attending hoping everyone would also along next week.
