Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 4th March 2014
Attendance: 40 members were present
Apologies: Jim Archer, Sam Barr, Robert Campbell, Jack Henderson, Dermot Jennings, Graham Kane, Ian Murray, Jim Nesbitt and Reggie Patterson (9)
Club President Gordon Ward welcomed members to the meeting and then introduced our speaker for the morning Mr Stewart Tosh. Stewart gave the members an extremely interesting and topical talk about the 'Commonwealth Games', the 20th being held in Glasgow this summer. A brief summary of this talk, with photos, is available in the Speakers Record Book, and also on the club web site. A vote of thanks was proposed by Jim Foote and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.
Minutes: The minutes of the 18th February 2014 read, agreed and signed.
Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.
Correspondence: None.
Social: Jim Gordon reported that the Club Lunch held on 25th February was of much better quality than had been served of late. It was a little disappointing that the attendance was down. Hopefully more members would be signing up for the meal on 25th of March. Menus should available next week.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Sam Barr at home, but not well enough to attend club meetings.
Treasurer: Nigel Semple said that most members had paid their subs. The 'retiring collection' would be closed after the meeting, so members last chance to donate to help Barry Torrens in his fund raising for Cancer Research UK.
A O B: Rally: Norman Maxwell asked what progress had been made on the preparations for hosting the All Ireland Rally. The President said that the really committee were preparing a presentation to discuss progress with members at the next meeting.
Next Speakers Meeting: Would be on 11th March, where the guest speaker would be Miss. Bernie McGill, who would be telling us about the 'Story of the Portstewart Tragedy of 1892'.
The President thanked everyone for attending, reminded members about the collection for Cancer Research UK and wished the Secretary good luck for his hospital appointment.
