Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 15 April 2014.

Attendance: 37 members were present.

Apologies: Joe Alcorn, Don Bell, Dermot Jennings, Cecil Leitch, Aubrey McElhinney, Ian Murray, Mervyn Patterson, Ahmed Sharieff, Tony Smyth, Michael Turner

Club President, Gordon Ward, welcomed members to the meeting, and then introduced our speaker for the morning, Mr Peter Semple. Peter teaches History and Politics at Coleraine High School and appropriately the title of his talk was “The Plantation of Ulster in Coleraine – A Perspective.” A very interesting and informative presentation followed.
Peter responded to a number of questions from members. A vote of thanks was proposed by Des Moore and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation. A brief summary of this talk is available in the “Speakers’ Record Book” and also on the Club web site.

Minutes: The Minutes of the 8 April 2014 were read. An amendment was made in the final paragraph. Coleraine Probus Rally should have read Coleraine Probus Club. The amended minutes were agreed and signed by the President.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Social:
Jim Gordon confirmed that the next club lunch will be held on Tuesday 29 April 2014 and, if possible, menu choices handed to him after this meeting or alternative, given by phone, not later than Friday 25 April.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Sam Barr is still seriously ill and we should continue to hold Sam and his family in our thoughts and prayers.

Treasurer: Nothing to report.

Any Other Business:
Volunteer Forms:
Jim Gordon said that with the 2 week break coming up it is important to gather in as much information as possible. Table hosts are required for the Rally lunch. Anyone who has not yet filled in a Volunteer Form can do so after this meeting.

Registration Forms: Members who have not yet registered as delegates will have the opportunity to do so after this meeting.

Next Speaker’s Meeting:
This will be held on Tuesday 6 May 2014 when the speaker will be club member Des Johnston, the title of the address being “An Inspector Calls.” This will revive memories of some of the club members.

Club meetings on 13 & 20 May – Preparation for the Rally.

Closing Remarks:
The President thanked the Assistant Secretary for preparing the minutes. He reported that Mike Turner was away on a well earned break. Hopefully he will return fully refreshed.
The President then wished all the members a very happy and relaxing Easter and declared the meeting closed at 12.07pm
