Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 11th November 2014
Attendance: 40 members and guests were present
Apologies: Sam Boyd, Robert Campbell, John Graham, Ronnie Gray, John Leslie and Joe Wishart (6)
Club President Gordon Ward welcomed members and guests James McDowell, David Elliot and John Tan to the meeting. The President then introduced our speaker for the morning Mr. Andrew Baird. Unfortunately, there being a technical hitch with the presentation, it was decided to take the business part of the meet first, while the problem was being sorted.
Minutes: The minutes of the 4th November 2014 were read, agreed and signed.
Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.
Correspondence: None
Social: The President reminded members about the Club outing to Bushmills Distillery on 25th November, and were asked to return their booking forms as soon as possible.
The Secretary said he now had the Christmas Lunch menu and choices form - thanks to Ivan Gough once again for producing this. Members were asked to return their choices ASAP so we can plan the lunch and entertainment arrangements better.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Jim Foote was still in the Causeway, making a slow improvement, but still not allowed general visitors.
A O B: 1. None
The President then re-introduced our speaker Andrew Baird. As it was not possible to fix the presentation 'glitch', Andrew gave his talk on energy generation and the Governmental targets for 'renewable energy', without the aid of graphics. Andrew's excellent talk covered the current state of energy supply, the 'five pillars' for the 2020 targets and a look into the future for our planet if the targets are not reached.
A brief summary of this talk is available in the Speakers Record Book, and also on the club web site. A vote of thanks was proposed by Jim Archer and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.
The President thanked all the members and guests for attending and hoped that everyone would also be along for our next meeting on 18th October
