Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 18th February 2014

Attendance: 41 members were present

Apologies: Don Bell, Arnold Carson, Peter FitzGerald, Ronnie Gray, John McGlade, Aubrey McElhinney, Mervyn Patterson and Tony Smyth (8)

Club President Gordon Ward welcomed members and special guests, our speakers wife and children, who had not heard the full story of their Dads' epic adventure. The President then introduced our speaker for the morning Mr. Barry Torrens, who told us all about his determination to raise money for Cancer UK Research and his climbing Gran Paradiso and Mont Blanc. A brief summary of this talk, with photos, is available in the Speakers Record Book, and also on the club web site. A vote of thanks was proposed by Graham Kane and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.

Minutes: The minutes of the 11th February 2014 read, agreed and signed.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.

Correspondence: None.

Social: Jim Gordon reminded members that the Club lunch on February 25th and said that he would like to see more names on the list. Anyone else wishing to attend, please contact Jim by Friday 21st.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Sam Barr was back home, but far from well following a heart attack.

Treasurer: Nigel Semple said he had just a few more members subs to collect, and should anyone wish to do so, see him after the meeting.

Next Speakers Meeting: Would be on 4th March, where the guest speaker would be Mr. Stewart Tosh on a topical subject, 'The Commonwealth Games'

The President thanked everyone for attending, and reminded them that there was a 'retiring Collection' for Cancer Research UK and a donation box was on the signing-in table. It would also be there for the next meeting.
