Coleraine Probus go to Kilrea and find a world class engineering firm and some old friends too!

For our Probus club, it was a day out with a difference. We started the day with a morning cup'er and some fresh scones with butter and jam, served in an old farm cottage (from the mid 1800s), while we listened to how Hutchinson Engineering got started - 'Creighton was always good with his hands and some welding kit'.

1971, and Creighton has ideas of starting an engineering firm.

We then went on a conducted tour of the factory - a 21st Century, advanced technology and spellbindingly cleaver set of machine tools with highly skilled operators.

Forty years on and Creighton takes a bit of a back seat,
and son Mark steps into the 'Managing Director' role.
