Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 19th March 2013
Attendance: 40 members were present.
Apologies: Jim Archer, Don Bell, Sam Boyd, Leslie Brennan, Alec Elliott, John Graham, Norman Maxwell, Ian Murray, John McHenry, Nigel Semple, Robin Semple and Gordon Ward (12)
Club President Graham Kane welcomed guests Leonard Black and Bert Wilson, then club members to the meeting. The President then introduced our speaker for the morning, Dean Griffin, who was making a very welcome return to our club. On this visit we were treated to a fascinating insight into the life and times of Jonathon Swift, or 'Dean Swift' to give his formal title. A summary of this talk is available on the ‘Probus Speakers' page for readers interest. A vote of thanks was proposed by Dermot Jennings and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.

Social: Jim Gordon reminded members about the club lunch held 26th March and that he could accept late booking up to Friday 21st.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Don Bell was not in got shape at all. He had taken a fall down all 16 steps at the dentists. Clearly his condition was a big worry to his wife as well as club members.
Tone Smyth reported that he had spoken to Jack Donaldson's daughter who said he was suffering from a chest infection at the moment.
Treasurer: Nigel Semple being absent, there was no treasurers report, but the President said that he had been told that Nigel would be still available for anyone wishing to pay their club subs.
A O B: 1: The Secretary reminded members of the Athlone Rally - May 15th to 16th. Five members and their wives, had said they would attend.
2: Train Times. The secretary thanked Dermot Jennings for providing details of the newly revised timetable for the Coleraine / Great Victoria Street line, which gave a new late train time of 22.40. This would enable people to attend the theatre or a concert in Belfast in the evening, and still be able to catch a train home.
3: Ken Parkes informed members that there would be a special 'Rail Fest' at Castlerock on Saturday 23rd March to celebrate the reopening of the rail line, starting at 10am and going on until 5pm
Next Speakers Meeting: Would be on 9th April, with a special talk from club member Ken Parkes, assisted by Mr. John McCullough, talking about RAYNET and Amateur radio communications.
Presidents reminders - Lunch next week - 12 noon for 12.30. NO meeting on 2nd April (Easter Tuesday), so don't forget it's back on 9th April
