Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 10th December 2013

Attendance: 42 members were present.

Apologies: Graham Kane, Arnold Carson, Noel Finley, Ivan Gough, Ronnie Gray, Norman Irwin, Graham MacDonald, Aubrey McElhinney and Robin Semple (9)

Club Vice President Gordon Ward took the chair and welcomed members to the meeting. He went on to say that our President had given his apologies as he was now in Antrim Hospital having a biopsy to check on a possible problem - our thoughts very much on the success of this procedure. The Vice President then introduced our speaker for the morning Mrs. Gwyneth McQuiston, the manager of the Diamond Centre in Coleraine who gave an interesting talk on her career (so far) under the title of 'The University of Life'. A brief summary of this talk is available in the Speakers Record Book, and on the club web site, for members' interest. A vote of thanks was proposed by John Ludlow and was passed on by the Vice President. The members showed their appreciation.

Minutes: The minutes of the meeting on 3rd December 2013 read, agreed (with a couple of minor typing corrections) and signed.

Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda

Correspondence: None.

Social: The Vice President wanted to thank Jim Gordon on behalf of the members for arranging our extra treat of free tea / coffee and mince pies / shortbread. Jim Gordon reminded members that there would be no club lunch after the meeting, and none in January, as this would be the AGM week.

Welfare: Cecil Spotten said that he was pleased to nothing to report this week.

Treasurer: Nigel Semple said the accounts were in order and also had nothing to report.

A O B: Carol Concert: Nigel said that the annual Counterpoint Concert would be on Friday 20th this year (not Saturday as before) at St. Patricks Church. He had some tickets available for members to purchase.
Club Website: Des Moore wanted to congratulate the club on the website and thank the members who had contributed to it and it's development.

Next Speakers Meeting: Would be on 7th January, where the guest speaker would be Mr. Ron Medcalf on 'Troubles with my motor home'.

The Vice President thanked members for their attendance, wished everyone a very happy Christmas and New Year, and most of all hoped that we would all be thinking of our President and hoping for this speedy return to full health and our Club meetings.
