Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 1st October 2013
Attendance: 43 members were present.
Apologies: Jim Archer, Sam Barr, Leslie Brennan, Eric Fulton, Des Johnston, John Ludlow, Ian Murray and Robin Semple (7)
Club President Graham Kane welcomed club members and echoed all our thoughts when he said how pleased he was to see Don Bell able to return to Probus, as well Ronnie Gray too. The President then introduced our speaker for the morning, Mr. Robert Alcorn, who gave an extremely interesting and informative talk on the work of a Resident Magistrate. A brief summary of this talk is available in the Speakers Record Book, and on the club web site for members interest. A vote of thanks was proposed by Cecil Spotten and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.
Minutes: The minutes of the meeting on 17th September 2013 were read, agreed and signed.
Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda
Correspondence: None not covered by the agenda
Rally 2014: The President said that there being nothing specific to report this item would be carried over for another week.
Social: Jim Gordon said that he was disappointed over the mix-up with the meal on 24th Sept. He had a discussion with the catering staff and all was now settled. Jim hoped that he would have the menus for the meal on 29th October ready for next weeks meeting, and he would also be opening booking for the Clubs special 25th Anniversary meal at the Lodge - more details of this to follow.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Jack Donaldson was now out of hospital and had returned to the nursing home in Ballyclare. We also heard that Arnold Carson was out of the Royal and returned to his Ballymena nursing home. The members wanted their best wishes passed on to these honorary members.
Treasurer: Nigel Semple said that the accounts were in order and had nothing to report
A O B: Club Ties: The Secretary reported that he was now taking orders for new club ties for members who wished to look extra smart for the up-coming anniversary and the All Ireland Rally next May. The cost would be £10 per tie, and there was a variety of colours and styles to suit all members tastes. See the order form and illustrations by the members badge box.
Club Badges: The Secretary reminded members that they should leave their club badges in the box at the end of the meeting rather than taking them home, as they don't clean-up too well when the jacked or jumper goes in the wash!.
Next Speakers Meeting: Would be on 8th October, when the guest speaker would be Mr. Fred Williams talking about the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
Meeting closed at 12.10pm
SIGNED: Graham Kane
