Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 19th February 2013
Attendance: 37 members were present.
Apologies: Jim Archer, Alec Elliott, Des Johnson, Graham MacDonald, Ian Murray, Tony Smyth and Mike Turner (7)
Club President Graham Kane welcomed members to the meeting and then introduced our speaker for the morning, Sir Robin Mansfield. Robin gave a wide ranging and interesting talk on the history of 'Grey Point Fort' at Helen's Bay. A summary of this talk is available on the ‘Probus Speakers' page for readers interest. A vote of thanks was proposed by Joe Wishart and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.
Minutes: The minutes of the meeting on 12th February 2013 were read, agreed and signed.
Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.
Correspondence: None
Social: Jim Gordon about the next club lunch on Feb 26. He would accept bookings until Friday 22nd.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Ernest Preece was making good progress in hospital and should be sent home by the end of the week. Cecil thanked Robert Campbell for informing him of Jack Henderson's illness. He was delighted to see Jack at the meeting and called for a round of applause for Jack's courage.
A O B: 1: The President raised the possibility of a Club outing to the Titanic Centre as part of our 25th year celebration. Members showed no interest in the idea. The President informed members that there would be a special Club lunch in October to mark the anniversary.
2: Cecil Leitch reported that his son William, working at the BBC, had told him that he had made a programme on the US war dead cemetery, receiving help from the Americans over airplane sound effects!
Next Meeting: Would be the Club Lunch on 26th February, 12.00 for 12.30, here at the Golf Club
Next Speakers Meeting: Would be on 5th March, with Dr. Scott White who is a Chiropractor.
The President thanked members for attending today and looked forward to seeing everyone next week.
