Club President Graham Kane welcomed club members and guest Eric Fulton, to the meeting. The President then introduced our speaker for the morning Mr Terry Moseley, who had us all 'Reaching for the stars'. A brief summary of this entertaining and astronomically huge talk, is available on the ‘Probus Speakers’ page. A vote of thanks was proposed by Nigel Semple and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.
Minutes: Due to time constraints, the minutes of the meeting on 30th April 2013 were taken as read.
Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda
Correspondence: None
Probus Rally 2014: Jim Gordon reported to the members that preparations for the trip to Athlone were just about ready, and then (after a short-ish technical hitch) gave a run through of the clubs presentation for hosting the 2014 Rally. The members pointed out a couple of typing errors, but otherwise thought that the show was adequate for the job it had to do.
Social: Jim Gordon reported that he was collecting menu choices for the Club Lunch on 14th May. Jim also asked for an indication of who would be coming to the quiz, but not the meal, and vice versa.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten said that he had nothing to report this week, but asked members to contact him at home if necessary, should they hear of any other club member being 'under the weather'.
Treasurer: Nigel Semple said that the accounts were in order and had nothing to report.
A O B: New Member: John Ludlow formally proposed Eric Fulton for membership. This was seconded by Hammy Houston and agreed by the members.
Club History: The President said that club member Billy Platt had volunteered to create a short history of the club in preparation for our 25th Anniversary celebration. The President hoped that members would think about what records / memories that may have to help Billy's task.
Next Meeting: Would be on 14th May, where we would have the annual club quiz followed by the end of session meal.
The president reminded members, especially those not attending the meal, that the club would be on its 'Summer Holidays' until we reconvene on 3rd September. The speaker on that occasion will be Ms Wilma Stewart, and the topic, the Face to face Programme of Power NI
