Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 8th January 2013

Attendance: 39 members were present.

Apologies: Joe Alcorn, Alec Elliott, Ronnie Grey, Jack Henderson, Des Johnson, Gareth Parry, Tony Smyth and Mike Turner (8)

Our President Ross Torrens welcomed members to the meeting and invited Cecil Leitch to say a few words about the late Dan McLoughlin. The members then observed a respectful minute of silence in his memory.
The President introduced our speaker, Mr Robin Walsh, retired controller of BBC NI, who gave a very informative talk on the National Lottery and his experiences with the BBC and UTV. A summary of this talk is available on the ‘Probus Speakers' page for readers interest.
A vote of thanks was proposed by Aubrey McElhinney and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.

Minutes: The minutes of the meeting on 4th December 2012 were read, agreed and signed.
Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.
Correspondence: None

Social: The President thanked Jim Gordon, Reggie Patterson and Leslie Brennan for their work in making the Christmas lunch success. Jim Gordon reported that 79 members and guests had attended, and thanked everyone who had helped in any way.
Welfare: Ian Murray reported that he was in the process of getting up to date with welfare matters. John Leslie reported that Ernest Preece was in hospital.
Treasurer: Nigel Semple said that he had nothing to report.

A O B: 2014 Rally: Norman Maxwell suggested that the present sub-committee be retained into the new Probus year, and asked if there were plans to add members to it. This matter is to be considered by the Club Committee.
Club Promotion: Ken Parkes reported that the next edition of Coleraine Borough Council's "What's On" booklet could be used to advertise the Club. The deadline to inclusion is the end of February.

Next Speakers Meeting: Will be on 15th January 2013, here at 10.30 for 11.00 start. The speaker will be Bernie McKenna of the Northern Health Promotion Agency, and will be about Heart Attacks, Bleeding and Choking. This meeting will be open for members' wives to attend.
