Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Held in Portstewart Golf Club on Tuesday 12th March 2013

Attendance: 41 members were present.
Apologies: Jim Archer, Leslie Brennan, Alec Elliott, Hamilton Houston, Norman Maxwell, Robin Semple and Gordon Ward (7)

Club President Graham Kane welcomed guest Eric Fulton and members to the meeting, then introduced our speaker for the morning, Mr Wilson Burgess. Wilson is a well known Ulster Scots broadcaster, writer and poet. For the meeting we were treated to a selection of his favourite verse. A summary of this talk is available on the ‘Probus Speakers' page for readers interest. A vote of thanks was proposed by Cecil Leitch and was passed on by the President. The members showed their appreciation.

Minutes: The minutes of the meeting on 5th March 2013 read, agreed and signed.
Matters arising: Raffle Prize winner: Mervyn Patterson observed that his winning of the Chiropractic session raffle hadn't been recorded - It had, in the 'Speakers Record Book' as it was part of the talk.
Club Outing: The President said that all meeting dates until the Autumn were now full, so there wouldn't be a trip before then. However, there would be a special lunch in October to mark the actual 25th anniversary.
Correspondence: None

Social: Jim Gordon distributed the menus for the club lunch held 26th March and asked that they be returned for the 19th March meeting.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Don Bell had taken a fall. Cecil would report more next week.
Treasurer: Nigel Semple said that most members had paid their subs, but he was still available for anyone wishing to.

A O B: 1: The Secretary had details available for the Athlone Rally - May 15th to 16th. Four members had so far volunteered.
2: New Sub Committee. The club committee were proposing to set up a Press and Publicity Sub Committee, under the leadership of Press Officer John Dobson. The new committee would be responsible for raising the profile of the club in it's 25th year; promoting the 2014 Rally if we agree to take it on; developing a club web site; establishing a club photo archive, as well as continuing to send weekly reports to the local newspapers. The sub committee, so far, comprised of John Dobson, Ken Parkes, Jim Gordon and Mike Turner, any other members interested should contact John. The Proposal was seconded by Cecil Leitch and agreed by the members.

Next Speakers Meeting: Would be on 19th March, with a welcome return of Dean Griffin. Talking about 'Dean Swift'. That's at 10.30 for 11.00 am start.

The President thanked members for attending today and looked forward to seeing everyone next week.
