Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club
Attendance: 32 members
The Club President, John Graham, welcomed members to the meeting. He then introduced our speaker for the morning, Mr Stuart Tosh, the topic of his talk being “The History of Policing in Ireland – Myth or Legend”
Stuart’s talk covered the period from the time of Peel and the establishment of the Irish Constabulary to the present day and the formation of the PSNI. He illustrated how in many ways the Royal Irish Constabulary was used as a template of many police forces around the world.

A vote of thanks proposed by Gordon Ward was passed on to Mr Tosh by the President.

Minutes: The minutes of the 17th February 2015, were read, agreed and signed by the President.
Matters arising: None not covered by the agenda.
Correspondence: Letter dated 26 February 2015 from Rotarian Mary Sinnamon.
In her letter Mary reminded members that the All Ireland Rally will be held at Ennis, Co Clare on Wednesday and Thursday, 13 and 14 May 2015. She hoped that the Club will be well represented at the Rally. She also confirmed that the 2016 All Ireland Rally will be held in the Northern Region.
REPORTS:
Social: Joe Alcorn reported that 29 members and guests enjoyed an excellent club lunch on Tuesday 24 February. The next club lunch will be held on Tuesday 31 March. Des Johnston should be contacted for menu details.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten in reporting confirmed that Jim Foote is now back home and is progressing well. It was good to see Billy Platt back in harness again.
Treasurer: Nigel Semple confirmed that the Probus Account is in the process of being transferred to the Santander Bank non-fee paying account..
A O B: 1. New Member – The President welcomed new member John Springhall and handed him an envelope containing the membership badges and a copy of the Coleraine Probus Club Constitution and Rules.
2. 2015 Probus All Ireland Rally – Ennis Co Clare Documents relating to this Rally are now available. Members requiring information and application forms should contact the Secretary.
To date 24 members including wives or partners have signed up for the Rally; completed application forms with full remittance should be returned to the Coleraine Probus Club President or Secretary. T
hese will be forwarded to the Ennis Clubs as a block application before the deadline of 14 April 2015. Costs: Delegates - £40.00; Tour Guests - £28.00.
Next Speakers Meeting: Will be held on Tuesday 10 March and the speaker will be Mr Gordon Millington OBE, topic “Lighthouses.”
The President thanked the members for attending and hoped that everyone would be at our next meeting.
