Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club

Attendance: 39 members and one guest were present ; Guest - Brian Green.

Apologies: Leo Dolan, Ronnie Gray, Norman Irwin, Dermot Jennings, Graham Kane, John McGlade, Mervyn Patterson, Reggie Patterson, Billy Platt and John Tan

The Club President, John Graham, welcomed members and one guest to the meeting. He then introduced our speaker for the morning, Mr Gerry McAfee, the subject for his talk being “The Art of Auctioneering.”

Mr McAfee gave an interesting talk about his life as an auctioneer. A career he wanted to follow from childhood. The talk, interspersed with amusing anecdotes, concluded with a quiz where members were invited to place a valuation on various antique items ranging from a Victorian bookcase to a diamond ring. The presentation concluded with an enthusiastic question and answer session.

A vote of thanks proposed by Eric Fulton was passed on to Mr McAfee by the President. The members showed their appreciation.

Minutes: The minutes of the 3rd February 2015, were read, agreed and signed by the President.

REPORTS:
Social: Joe Alcorn informed members that the next club lunch will take place on Tuesday 24 February: Menus for this meal are now available and orders must be placed by not later than Tuesday 17th February 2015.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten reported that Jim Foote is now out of hospital and staying with his daughter. Not yet able to receive visitors
Billy Platt is in hospital suffering from kidney stones.
Treasurer: Nigel Semple confirmed that the Coleraine Probus Funds are deposited in the “Santander” Bank
There are still a few members who have to pay the 2015 subscription of £25.00.

A O B: 1. Cecil Leitch reminded members that the club was originally known as the Coleraine & District Probus Club. After splitting, two clubs were subsequently formed as Portstewart Probus Club and Coleraine Probus Club.
2. NOTICE OF NEW MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
John McHenry will give notice for John Springhall. Joe Alcorn will give notice for Jim Donaghy. Norman Gallagher will give notice for Brian Green.

Next Speakers Meeting: Will be on 17th February, and the speaker will be Mr Ken Ward on the subject of “The First World War – Aspects of Propaganda”

The President thanked the members and guest for attending and hoped that everyone would be at our next meeting.
