Minutes of the meeting of Coleraine Probus Club

Attendance: 41 members and guests were present; Guests - John Springhall, Brian Green and Jim Donaghy.

Apologies: Sam Boyd, John Dobson, Ronnie Gray, Dermot Jennings, Des Johnston, Des Moore, John Tan and John White

Our new Club President, John Graham, welcomed members and guests to this, his first speaker’s meeting. He looked forward to having the support of the Club members during his year in office and requested that they register on the attendance sheet at each meeting. This will ensure that an accurate attendance is always recorded.
The President then introduced our speaker for the morning, Mr. Gary O’Neill, the subject for his talk being The Battlefields of the First World War.
Before his retirement Gary was a scientist working with the Fisheries Division of the Department of Agriculture and he is an expert on the care and development of fish stocks in the Province. Gary is also a member of the Portstewart Probus Club.

A vote of thanks proposed by Cecil Spotten was passed on to Mr. O’Neill by the President.

Minutes: The minutes of the 20th January 2015, were read, agreed and signed by the President.

REPORTS:
Social: Joe Alcorn reminded members that the next club lunch will take place on Tuesday 24 February: Menus for this meal are now available.
Welfare: Cecil Spotten said it was good to see Robert Campbell back after his operation, looking fit and well.
Jim Foote is through his second operation and shows a slight improvement.
Don Bell now resides in Cornfields Care Home in Limavady.
Treasurer: Nigel Semple thanked those members who have already paid the membership fee for 2015-16 and he looked forward to receiving the outstanding fees. He confirmed that he was investigating current bank fees with Santander.

A O B: Membership List for 2015-16 – The President thanked Jim Hillis for providing the new membership lists, copies of which were distributed to the members after the meeting.

Next Speakers Meeting: Will be on 10th February, 10.30 for 11.00am start, and the speaker will be Mr Gerry McAfee, on “The Art of Auctioneering”.

The President thanked the members and guests for attending and hoped that everyone would be at our next meeting.
